Enlivening Your Prayer Life  - Your Top Tips

Prayer is one of the most important building blocks when it comes to our faith. But sometimes that close link can put pressure on it, warp it, or simply push prayer times out of our day.
Prayer isn't always easy or straight-forward during life's storms and dry spells. We get busy, distracted, and disillusioned. Building on our relationship with God shouldn't be a chore, but instead something to look forward to - something full of possibilities.

So we thought we'd start a thread for you all to share and explore the different ways you mix it up to keep your prayer lives fresh and exciting!

You often see churches doing activation exercises and things during their main meetings where church members write down their prayers and then bring them to the front and physically place them at the foot of a cross as physical action to reflect their spiritual decision to give what they wrote to God. I read about a church that did a different take on that and their congregation (or the staff team) folded the prayers into amazing different coloured origami birds which where hung from the altar.
Similar premise of people releasing control of whatever the situation on the bit of paper is and giving it to God.

Link to it is here for you to see for yourselves:

Pinterest is SO SO good for things like this. Well, for creativity in general, but if you search things like 'creative prayer' or 'prayer stations' it has loads of ideas for things you can do in churches, youth groups, school, and at home to help you get out of your comfort box and explore new ways of praying and processing things with God.

One of the craziest (ok, probably not that crazy) ones i saw on there once was that someone dropped a effervescent vitamin tablet into a glass of water, and then during the time that the tablet fizzed, that was their time for getting all their emotion and frustration out to God. Then when the tablet was fully dissolved, time up, and then they just dropped it as they'd had time to 'say their bit' and then leave the situation behind, forgive and move on.
Goes to show you can use just about anything as a prayer moment!

One of the best one's ive seen on there and still use it is 'Prayer Jars'. There are loads of different versions you can do, but basically it's finding a empty jar, and then steadily filling it with bits of paper;

- Answered Prayer; writing down every time God answers your prayers, adding it to the jar, and then on new years eve opening it and reading through all the amazing things God has done. Great tool for giving thanks and building up hope and expectation for the year agead

- Prayer Requests; if you have lots of situations to be praying for, rather than listing them so you don't forget, you can keep them all in a jar (e.g. people's names, situations in your life, global issues, etc) and then pick out a couple each day and focus on praying for those people or the things you pick out.

- Communal Prayer Jars; like the last one, but a much much bigger jar/box where people from your church or youth group add their prayers, and you pick a new piece of paper each week and commit to praying for/about that thing across the week.

Ooooo I do the jar thing (Pinterest is great!) as a new year prayer time, and our housegroup does the communal version, minus the jar, for the entire year. So at the start of each year we all get a slip with a 2 people's names on to pray for across the year. Then if new people join the group they get added in too.
