Sue's 12 books

Post by suesconsideredt on Tue Jan 12, 2016 3:14 pm

I'm a bit late signing up for this one, but I have just read a book I really want to recommend.  It is available from Aslan books and is on special offer!

My February pick is The Jazz Files by Fiona Veitch Smith.  This is a mystery novel set in the early 20th century.  I have reviewed it https://suestrifles.wordpress.com/2016/01/23/the-jazz-files-book-review/

For March I am spoilt for choice.  I think The Abbess of Whitby: A novel of Hild of Northumbria would be my pick, but not if you don't like stories about fighting and suchlike.  It is by Jill Dalladay I reviewed a few books here

Aslan books have it on special offer (I didn't know before I picked it!)

Hi Sue,

The Abbess of Whitby has been an incredibly popular book.
From what we've heard it's definitely worth a read!
Let us know what you think if you pick it!

Hi Aslan_HQ

I already did!  Perhaps the link in my post above wasn't very clear.  If you go back and click on the word "here", you'll find my blog post about 3 books I read in March.

For April my book is The Hawk and the Dove by Penelope Wilcock.  I enjoyed reading it one story at a sitting and am looking forward to reading more in this series.

A book I really enjoyed in May was Miss Carter's War by Sheila Hancock.  It is a novel set after the second World War.  It would make a good book for a reading group to discuss.  There is a great deal of social history and the way ideas changed during the decades following WW2 is woven into the story.

For June my pick has got to be Stress: How to de-stress without doing less by Dr Kate Middleton. At the moment there is only one book I would recommend more strongly (the Bible).
Stress is a book for everyone. It is very well written and could probably be read by someone whose concentration was not as good as it ought to be on account of stress.
Everyone should read this book to be aware of how stress affects us physically, mentally and emotionally. I shall be writing a proer review on my blog.

Stress is a HUGE issue. Especially when our down time is now packed with screens, and advertising and noise.
Great idea for a book recommendation. Thanks, Sue!
