The Action Bible

I am currently reading The Action Bible New Testament, Gods Redemptive Story (Picture Bible) by Brazilian - American Comic Book Artist Sergio Cariello. The book is an edited, modern and refreshingly simplified version of the Bible. It gives you an opportunity to be introduced to the bible or re-experience a simple story telling of your favourite characters.

Sergio Cariello has been an artist for Marvel and DC. He works in pencil and inks producing intricate detailed illustrations in a spectrum of colours. His book is full of beautiful, sincerely considered illustrations. The text is presented in the style of a comic book with a message of struggle, friendship, faith and betrayal. A book that transcribes the message of Jesus in the same way that friends would talk, laugh, cry and share their tales, depicted for the masses.

It consists of 215 fast paced cinematic styled narratives representing the worship and persecution of Christ. Reflecting the speed and tempo of a man fighting for a cause and dispersing his message whilst simultaneously depicting Christ as a peaceful, enigmatic character.

The Autumnal colours suggest when a death is in progress and a tension in the characters expression. Their anxiety increases over the safety of their friend. Their despair is shown when their friend is threatened and deceived. Their Exalted delight of the return of their friend after he has callously been murdered. Their mourning and their faith.

The book is filled with motion but this only increases in the story of Paul as he travels large distances to spread the message of the Bible. He constantly battles with different people who cannot reconcile the difference with their own laws. The book follows their journeys and their prison escapes as they constantly face opposition. Leading to the final stages of the New Testament.

The book is totally enthralling and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wanted to be introduced to the Bible or revisit the Bible through a modern presentation.

Wow, what a great review!

The Action Bible has been a favourite with our customers this year, from the main Action Bible, to the ESV Study Bible version, the Remix CD, or the game - we've been sending these out every week!
Great to hear some feedback on it.
